Savemor Bowling day 2020
On Tuesday the 24th of November, the Hogsback Bowling Club (HBC) together with SaveMor Hogsback SPAR will be launching the SaveMor Fun Day, a one-day bowling event opened to all Hogsback residents and held on the premises of our most excellent green host, the King’s Lodge Hotel, where the Hogsback Bowling Club is situated. This event is organised by the HBC and sponsored by SaveMor Hogsback SPAR, thanks to the generosity and goodwill of Rory Odendaal and his incredible team.
For it to happen, the SaveMor Fun Day needs the participation of 12 teams of 3 players each to compete with one another (a skip may be required if participants need coaching). A Hogsback Bowling Club member will automatically be assigned when a skip is required. Teams can also be made up of more than 3 players, which means that team members will need to rotate when playing, as only 6 woods will be allowed per team. Each game will be played over ten ends. Rules will be explained in detail by HBC Captain Paul King on the day, during registration.
Bowls can be obtained from the club on the day if required, or borrowed from fellow HBC members or friends beforehand. An HBC member will be in charge of bowls (woods) on the day and can be consulted before the games.
A R10-raffle and an auction will also be organised on the day. Concerning the Raffle, 50% of the takings will go to the winner, and the other 50% will go as a donation towards the Hogsback Bowling Club. Please bring cash on the day. Only 50 tickets will be available. Concerning the Auction, we encourage all participants to put anything on auction (no partners or children please!) on that occasion (reserve prices to be supplied beforehand to auctioneer Paul King if required).
The day’s programme will be as follows:
08:30 to 09:00 = Registration of teams and R10-raffle entries + photo session
09:00 to 10:30 = Game 1 (HBC Skip + 2 players OR 3 players/no skip)
10:30 to 11:30 = Tea Break
11:30 to 13:00 = Game 2 (HBC Skip + 2 players OR 3 players/no skip)
13:00 to 14:00 = Lunch
14:00 to 15:30 = Game 3 (3 players/no skip)
15:30 to 17:00 = Prize Giving
17:00 to 18:00 = Auction (to be confirmed)
We ask all participants to please bring one small plate (only) of snacks for the morning tea break.
SaveMor Hogsback Spar will be sponsoring the lunch.
We would like to ask participants to dress up for the occasion, as a prize will be awarded for the best dressed team.
The prizes awarded during the ceremony will include winners, runners-up, thirds, best dressed teams and many more categories.
The winning team, which will be awarded a floating trophy, will automatically be entered the following year to defend the title.
The auction, which will be held after the prize giving ceremony, will most certainly prove entertaining as our very own auctioneer Paul King (who is well-known for his amazing energy and sense of humour) will be taking us through the sale of (hopefully) interesting items. Please bring cash for the occasion.
